Come browse in the library!
Yes, we are open for browsing! And Interlibrary Loans is open again too!
We welcome patrons to come browse Tuesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday afternoons between 12 and 4 p.m.
We have a hand sanitizing station at the entrance, and we are limiting the number of visitors to 5 at one time.
Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
It is mandatory for patrons to wear masks in the library.
Can I use a computer or sit and read a book in the library?
Yes, we now have two public access computers and limited seating, both with a 45 minute time limit at the moment.
Libraries are high touch environments and we are following health and safety recommendations to ensure it is as safe as possible to borrow physical Library items.
Taking an abundance of caution, library staff are wearing masks and cleaning high-touch surfaces such as door handles and countertops. We’re also replacing keyboard covers and sanitizing computer mouses at public computer stations between patrons.
We are offering Self-serve Library Takeout service for patrons
As of Tuesday May 19th, 2020 the Nakusp Public Library is offering a “takeout” service for picking up Library holds at the front door.
Pick up times are on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays noon to 4pm. We can also arrange for pickup on other days and times Monday – Friday.
How does it work?
Place holds on your account using the Library catalogue (only items from the Nakusp Library are available at this moment). If you require assistance please email email@example.com OR phone 250-265-3363.
Holds will be available for pick up on a table at the front door. We can bring items down the stairs to you if you do not want to come into the library.
We can also provide recommendations, or sign you up for a Library card (provide: full name, email address, mailing address, and phone number).
We will call you to notify you when your holds are ready for pickup.
Processing times, which include a quarantine period, may cause backlog and it is difficult to determine how fast we can have your order ready. Staff will need time to safely check out and prepare the items you requested.
What about returning books, magazines, and DVDs?
Our drop box is now open, and we are also accepting materials in a return box during pick up and browsing hours. All returned material will be quarantined before going back in to circulation.
Because of the quarantine period, your books may still appear to be “checked out” on your account and you could receive a notification of late items. In the words of the late, great Douglas Adams: DON’T PANIC. Late fees are not being charged, but of course the library is always grateful for donations.
Running late? Can’t make it? Not feeling well?
Please let us know so we can set up a new appointment day. If you are high-risk or self-isolating, a family member or neighbour can pick up your items. But if you or if any member of your household is sick, we ask that you refrain from borrowing library materials until everyone is well again. This will help us all feel more comfortable and confident with the safety of our collections.
