Get a Library Card

Nakusp Public Library offers memberships free of charge to all residents and electors within the Village of Nakusp and Defined Area K of the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK). This is paid through household taxation. All students in School District #10 (including home schooled children) are eligible to receive a free student card.

Residents outside the Village of Nakusp and Defined Area K are required to pay an annual fee of $25 a year per individual and $40 a year for families. The Library’s taxation area does not include Burton, Fauquier, Edgewood, Hills, New Denver, Galena Bay or Trout Lake. These residents do not pay library taxes so are not eligible for a free library card.

Members of other BC libraries may be eligible for a free BC OneCard, which would give them borrowing privileges at Nakusp Public Library.

Visitors who are not eligible for a BC OneCard or for people residing out of province can purchase a temporary library card, which is valid for 6 months. There is a $15 deposit; upon return of all materials and library card $10 is reimbursed.

Library card holders’ rights and responsibilities

You are responsible for all the materials borrowed on your card and for any charges on items that are overdue, lost or damaged. (See Loan Periods and Fines for details). Your library card provides access to licensed databases from outside the library. You may also look at our catalogue from home over the Internet, and access your account to place holds, keep lists and renew items.

Lost or stolen cards

If you lose your library card, you are responsible for any items checked out on your card. You must report it as lost immediately and we will block the card so that no one can use it. There may be a small charge to replace a lost card.

Change of address or password

It is important for us to have your current information. If you change your address or other personal information, contact the library and we’ll update your record.
